Doctorates
The Doctorate (PhD) is the highest level award offered by universities. It provides a first professional experience of careers in the world of research. The title of doctorate is recognised the world over as a superlative.
Since its creation, and being the inheritor of a long tradition of scientific and technical innovation, the Université de Haute-Alsace, has been developing synergy between research, education and industry.
The first Chemistry School in France was created in Mulhouse in 1822, swiftly giving rise to the first research laboratory in response to the needs of industry in the textiles and dyeing domains. Higher Education quickly followed and diversified which resulted in the creation of the UHA in 1975. Since then, this young university has striven to maintain its special relationship with industrial and socio-economic stakeholders.
Today the research activities of the laboratories coalesce about three principal themes : « Chemicals and functional materials », « mobilities » and « risks », and serve to enhance the visibility of the university on the international stage. The regular increase in the number of doctoral students enroled with UHA demonstrates the attraction of UHA in terms of innovation and scientific excellence. Almost half of the university’s doctoral students come from abroad, from more than 50 different countries.
